A handful of waterfalls differentiate Thika with other major towns. The waterfalls are also breeding sites for aquatic species, birds and much more.

I am yet to hear of a town that matches Thika's natural falls. My wandering spirits made me discover more.

On a Sunday afternoon, I took a nature walk along Thika superhighway, as I enjoyed the sounds of idle engines of cars moving like the wind along the famous highway, I noticed river Thika snaking across the asphalt.

Thika falls lies below river Thika, off Thika superhighway and behind Blue Post hotel, it sits across Chania falls.

Upstream the water looked calm, before the storm. The green vegetation in the surrounding seemed to signify the majesty of mother nature while the vast land suits a birding site and towering buildings from Thika town comes to sight making the area more magnificent.

Downstream the thunder of the fall awes me. The fall is epic, the water dances past the stones and losses its composure leaping down furiously and leaving the surroundings being ridiculously cold.

One can view the fall from above or walk down.

A path takes me to the floor of the fall, a magnificent pool is formed at the floor and for a moment, I remain rooted in consuming all the beauty in. Caves from behind and beside the fall adding to the thrills of a peaceful nature. This is the place to stress out, the lush green vegetation and a mini-rainbow cutting through makes my trip priceless.

The most noticeable characteristic of this fall is its snow-white appearance as it plunges.

A visit to the fall will not be complete without a plant identification exercise, taking photos in different positions is a must-do. For fish lovers, don't forget to carry a fishing rod. This is a mind-blowing picnic site.

There is no tour guide, and no gate charges, it's free. The spacious plain offers ample security.

Downstream, the water gathers it's steps and flows gracefully until it empties in river Chania down.

Thika river is a water consumption and agricultural source for Kiambu residents.
