Former presidential candidate James Ole Kiyiapi has weighed in on Chief Justice David Maraga's claims that the Executive is undermining the office of the CJ.
Addressing the press on Monday, Maraga pointed out a number of issues affecting the Judiciary, adding that funding has been a major problem.
Reacting to the presser by the CJ, Ole Kiyiapi said the judiciary is a key arm of government and should not be frustrated.
''The Judiciary is a critical arm of Government. They must have adequate funding to be effective. We should never let our CJ to go public pleading for funds. That is inconsistent with good governance,'' said Ole Kiyiapi.
During the presser, Maraga urged the National Assembly to allocate enough funds to the judiciary to enable it build courts, and serve Kenyans better.
He said lack of adequate funding affects operations of judicial officers, adding that it is the main cause of increased number of pending cases.
Maraga said he will remain firm as the CJ, adding that no amount of intimidation will force him to resign.
