They say politics has no permanent enemy and perhaps this could explain Raila Odinga's relationship with Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama.
In 2013, Arama became the first person from Abagusii community alongside Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati to be elected to Parliament from a cosmopolitan area.
At Nakuru, Arama relied heavily on ODM, his party then, to win the seat. However, he cut links with Mr Odinga, accusing him of harassment.
"I cannot work with a dictatorial party. That we are told to oppose everything. That is impossible. I will join like minded people," he had said when he decamped to Jubilee.
While many viewed the move as catastrophic in a constituency that leans towards ODM, Arama managed to bounce back thanks to fielding of many candidates.
Last week, Mr Arama made a surprise u-turn and backed Mr Odinga. He is one of Gusii leaders who visited Mr Odinga at Capitol Hill offices.
During the funeral of former Nyaribari Masaba MP Dr Hezron Manduku, Arama hailed Mr Odinga as statesman, adding that his sacrifice to the country is worth emulating.
"To be truthful, Baba never holds grudges. I ditched ODM but here we are. He's a statesman and I will back an all inclusive government," he said in reference to Building Bridges Initiative.
Even as Raila makes gains among Gusii leaders, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and Senator Sam Ongeri have been instrumental.
Prof Ongeri is said to be one of Raila's most trusted lieutenant, who the ODM leader often consults. The veteran leader has been mobilising leaders to with together.
"Ongeri has and will remain our pillar. It's good to have an experienced leader who guides you. He has been uniting us behind the handshake," Borabu MP Ben Momanyi revealed on Saturday in a phone call.
