Although leaders from either side of the political divide have backed the report, the methodology of implementation it has caused rifts.

While DP William Ruto's team is for the parliamentary initiative, ODM leader Raila Odinga has openly called for a referendum.

But Cheruiyot, a key supporter of Ruto, on Sunday asked Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta to host Dr Ruto for an urgent meeting.

According to him, the meeting will solve key issues surrounding BBI report to avoid further divisions that have emerged from the debate.

“Each of the three leaders [has] said the report is good. We need them to state categorically the sections of the report they want expunged or amended. They must provide the much-needed direction and leadership on this critical debate,” Cheruiyot said as quoted by Nation.

The second term legislator was speaking in Ugenya where he had been invited by area MP David Ochieng' for a fundraiser.

ODM leader John Mbadi believes there is more room for suggestions before the report is implemented.

He has also backed the referendum.

“There will come time when everyone will be given a chance to propose amendments in the report. Kenyans will air their views on what they want to be changed in BBI before it is implemented,” Mbadi said.

DP Ruto's team is pushing for the parliamentary initiative, which Speaker Justin Muturi has already ruled out amid simmering debate over the mode of implementation.
