This is after an emerging issue whereby other swarms were spotted in Wajir South on Thursday evening, despite efforts by the government over aerial spraying.

"We all have seen effects caused by the invasions. It is the high time government declares this as a national disaster, to enable mobilization for more resources," Shariff told Nation.

On Thursday, the new Agriculture CS Peter Munya admitted how the pesticides being used in the aerial spraying exercise were ineffective, making it unable to fight the pest.

The invasion begun in Wajir, Mandera and Garissa counties before it extended to Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Samburu and Laikipia counties even as the government intensified its fight against the disastrous pest.

Recent updates by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned about more invasion, with others expected to navigate to Baringo and Turkana Counties.

Mr Shariff applauded the government for its aerial spraying efforts urging them to increase in the exercise as it seems working.

He urged that more pesticides be dispatched to the Northern region to avert any further invasions and expressed his fears also, about how Wajir County could soon experience yet another invasion, after another swarm was reportedly creeping into the County from Somalia via Eastern border in Gerille area.

FAO has already warned about the unmatched threat to food security over the entire country following the invasion.
