A section of Kenyans on Twitter on Friday applauded the move to arrest the Embakasi MP Babu Owino citing that no one is above the law.
They argued that it was sad that a leader who had been elected to serve the people would be involved in such a violent incident.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Owino had indeed been arrested.
The alleged arrest came at a time when the Kenyan netizens were already up in arms on social media over sentiments that the legislator had made in regard to the opposition leader Raila Odinga winning the presidential election in 2022.
A number of the netizens claimed Kenyans should remain calm and trust the judicial system. They pointed out that the legislator should be treated like any other suspect and investigations into the incident should be conducted.
However, some of the netizens alleged that the arrest may have been political.
KOT further linked the MP to the sentiments he had made earlier that predicted violence in the next election.
They added that Babu Owino should also be charged for the utterances which he made.
