Damaris Wambui Kamau, a woman from Bahati Nakuru, has been making headlines after boldy rejecting President Uhuru Kenyatta's gift which she termed 'a big joke'.
“This is a big joke. Look at this house. It has cracks on the outside and looks like a semi-permanent house while President Kenyatta in his wisdom meant well for us as a family,” Wambui said.
Wambui had been given the house after her son, Dennis Ngaruiya became famous for thrilling President Uhuru with a poem entitled “Our Father” during the Kenya Defence Forces celebrations at 3KR Barracks in Lanet, Nakuru back in October 2014.
Wambui persistently refused to occupy the house claiming that those tasked with buying her land and building the house played some monkey business.
The house was later given to another needy Kenyan, Macharia Gachie, 58, a father of three disabled children who had been offered refuge in a church before.
The unexpected turn of events left everyone baffled and left with these lessons to learn:
1. Opportunities have wings and come once
This seemed a lifetime opportunity to receive such a gift from the top boss but the gift 'flew away'.
2. We should learn to give thanks in small things. Saying thank you is a noble thing especially when someone comes to your rescue. Do not develop a sense of entitlement.
3. Caring for the needy in society. Sometimes we could be concentrating on people who don't really need help while sidelining the poor and needy in society, we don't have to do good only when the media is watching, God the Omnipresent is always counting your steps.
4. Appreciate new levels and the role of destiny helpers. New levels in life are sometimes inevitable but if not well received they can mess our reputation and ruin the help given by others.
