Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha on Friday delivered a cheque of Sh100 million to Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge at his home in Kapsisiywa, Nandi County.
The cheque was a donation channelled to the construction of a library in honour of Eliud Kipchoge who recently placed Kenya on the spotlight after he went into history books for becoming the first man in the world to run a marathon under two hours.
According to CS Magoha, the donation was a reward to Kipchoge for flying the Kenyan flag high in athletics.
Kipchoge, the World Marathon Record holder, had initially requested the president to construct a library and a school at his home village.
"President Kenyatta has today given out Sh100 million to build a new library in honour of what Kipchoge did for Kenya," Magoha said as quoted by Nation.
President Uhuru is expected to commission the library within the next half a year.
Magoha further issued a stern warning against embezzlement of the money.
Eliud Kipchoge attracted the attention of the world during the INEOS 159 challenge in Vienna, Austria where he finished a full marathon within 1 hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds.
Although the record was not recognized as official, Kipchoge's finish time was the shortest that an athlete has ever finished a full marathon with.
President Uhuru's donation comes shortly after Kipchoge was awarded an Isuzu D-Max single cab pick-up worth Ksh 4.1milion by Isuzu East Africa.
