Two men were charged before a Mombasa Court with robbing a businessman of more than Sh1.9 million after withdrawing from a bank.
Hassan Kombo Ngala and Said Shariff Ahmed were being accused of allegedly violently robbing businessman, Abdulrashed Ali Hussein of Sh1,950,000.
Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Rabera heard that the accused persons committed the crime on June 25 this year at Barclays Bank in Mombasa along Nkrumah Road.
The two accused persons are said to have waylaid Abdulrashed moments after he withdrew money from the bank and robbed him while armed with an AK 47 rifle.
The accused persons were arrested by the police who were on patrol at the time of the incident.
The two accused persons, however, denied the charges before the court and through lawyer Adama Hamza filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.
Lawyer Hamza in the application pleaded with magistrate Rabera to give his clients a reasonable bail saying they will attend the trial.
Magistrate Rabera granted the application and directed that the two be released on a Sh500,000 bond with a similar surety.
“The suspects can be released on a bond of Sh500,000 with a similar surety,” said magistrate Rabera as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
The case will be heard on July 10 this year.
