A couple is being held at Kisumu Central Police Station after allegedly attacking census team members.
The man and wife confronted a village elder and a chief who had accompanied census officials on Sunday.
According to Citizen Digital, the man Richard Ochieng bit the village elder's finger while his wife attacked area Assitant chief with a brick injuring his thigh.
Acting Kanyakwar Chief Maurice Ojwang said the couple had chased away the census officials on Saturday. This forced him to accompany them on Sunday with some police officers. The second attempt was also futile because, on arrival, Ochieng's wife started wailing and later called her husband who was not around. The man arrived and was equally furious.
When the police tried handcuffing him, he bit the village elder's finger.
The chief said that the two are known to resist various community initiatives. He said they also opposed polio vaccination.
This comes after several reports of census officials being attacked by Kenyans and dogs.
