Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Kairu now says that members of the Jubilee Party feel disappointed and let down by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Kairu on Wednesday faulted Raila for abandoning his duties after his 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, a job he was excellent at.
He said that consequently, the government has gone slightly rogue since it is not regulated, arguing that the nation needs him (Raila) back on the opposition side.
Kairu said that Raila has also wasted alleged prayers the Jubilee leaders always did in his honour to enable him to prosper in keeping President Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership in check.
"Tumekuwa tukimwombea sana Raila katika kazi yake ya kuikosoa serikali lakini sasa handshake inatuumiza kama wakenya. Mbeleni hata Haya mambo ya madeni angeuliza lakini sasa mambo yamebadilika (We have been really praying for Raila in his job as the opposition leader but the handshake has been a blow. Initially, he would have even questioned the growing national debt but that is no longer the case)," he said.
Kairu was speaking in an interview on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show, also attended by political analyst Gerald Bitok and governance expert and former Rongo MP aspirant David Osiany.
He claimed that the handshake has thrown Jubilee members off balance, as Raila now appears to be enjoying more benefits using his closeness to Uhuru.
"Huyu mgeni ameingia hadi bedroom. Raila ndiye sasa ananufaika zaidi hata ya wanachama wa Jubilee (The guest went directly to the bedroom. Raila is now the biggest beneficiary if compared to other Jubilee members)," he added.
Raila and Uhuru termed their truce as a remedy to the political wrangles and instability that had engulfed the nation after Uhuru's controversial 2017 reelection.
However, his allies have insisted that he remains the opposition boss.
