Controversial Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is yet again on the spot following brutality against an unidentified journalist on Monday outside EACC headquarters.
The flamboyant county boss was appearing at the commission following summons issued over his criminal and academic records which have been under scrutiny.
Sonko, who was returning to EACC shortly after leaving to collect missing documents, had his security slapping a journalist covering the event.
In the footage, Sonko and the security officer are seen pushing in as the officer slaps the an unidentified press man covering the event.
The commotion lasts for few minutes as the two walk towards the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission offices for grilling.
Last week, the Commission wrote Sonko demanding for his appearance for grilling. He has dishonored previous summons.
“The commission would like you to respond to these allegations and record a statement regarding the same. To this end, you are required to appear at the EACC headquarters integrity centre, Nairobi, on November 5 at 10 am to facilitate investigations,” reads the letter dated October 28 addressed to the governor by the EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak.
Insiders within EACC said the governor’s tribulations are linked to possible records of court convictions which were not declared in the declaration form.
“The commission will also question him on his academic papers. The probe will seek to establish if he falsified them,” said an official who did not want to be quoted.
Records emerged recently from prison showing that the governor might have faked his way out of prison after providing fake HIV test results.
But in a recent press conference, Sonko dismissed the allegations, insisting that he was lawfully let out. His academic records have also been questioned.
