President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday conceded defeat in Kibra by-election according to Secretary for Innovation, Diaspora and Digital Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi.
Imran Okoth of ODM was declared the winner in last week's poll, beating his close challenger McDonald Mariga of Jubilee by a big range.
Despite endorsing Mariga, Uhuru kept off Kibra by-election campaigns, which saw a host of Jubilee leaders supporting Imran for the sake of handshake.
A week after the poll, politicians from across the political divide have been trading barbs, with some accusing ODM of sponsoring violence.
While at the Sagana State Lodge on Friday where he met all leaders from Mt Kenya, Uhuru conceded defeat on behalf of Jubilee Party.
"We had a candidate in Kibra. And though our candidate did not win, we won by being able to campaign," Uhuru reportedly told Mt Kenya leaders.
The meeting was a closely guarded secret with the agenda still remaining scanty. It was the first time Uhuru was meeting Mt Kenya leaders in a while.
Deputy President William Ruto has been particularly the most offended with Kibra by-election results, accusing ODM of sponsoring violence.
“The ONLY strategy and structure Tinga's party had which largely succeeded was, violence, chaos, mayhem & terror meted out by organized baba's militia, the same instruments used by terrorist organizations including outlawed groups," tweeted the Deputy President.
