Professor Makau Mutua has warned leaders allegedly forcing Deputy President William Ruto on Kenyans to stop the blackmail.
In a tweet on Monday, the political analyst stated that in a democratic country, no one is usually entitled to rule.
Makau argued that just like any other presidential aspirant, DP Ruto should also feel free to ask votes from Kenyans saying his current model is showing him as a dictator.
"Some of my compatriots from the Kalenjin and Kikuyu nations must stop FORCING @WilliamsRuto on Kenyans. Stop the BLACKMAIL. In a democracy, NOBODY is ENTITLED to RULE. The DP is free to ask for votes, but THREATS and BRAGGADOCIO are the dictator's FINGERPRINT," Mutua tweeted.
Mutua spoke against the backdrop of a promise made by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2017 re-election campaign where he pledged to back Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.
However, since the March 9, 2018 handshake with opposition chief Raila Odinga, Uhuru has remained non-committal on this subject, even when pushed to the edge to declare his stand.
The Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee Party which is pro-Ruto has been drumming support from Mt Kenya voters to consider the DP in his 2022 bid.
