In a tweet on Saturday, the governing Jubilee party legislator took issue with the manner in which the county boss was cleared of financial wrongdoing.

The vocal senator wondered why the governor went to court instead of appearing before a Senate committee to respond to audit queries that the Machakos boss was facing.

"Most honest governors have appeared before Senate's CPAIC's committee to explain their audit queries. You rushed to court to evade accountability. Why run if you are clean sir?" Aaron Cheruiyot's tweet reads.

The governor had in an earlier tweet directed at Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen denies ever engaging in any financial wrongdoing, saying that the allegations that had been leveled against him were politically motivated.

"I wish to inform @kipmurkomen that I am NOT under any investigation by any agency. The DPP cleared me last year of any wrongdoing & the FALSE politically instigated accusations about vehicles are no more. I have NEVER been corrupt & need no one’s protection. I am CLEAN," the Machakos county boss wrote.

A section of politicians have been claiming that some governors in the country are enjoying protection from accountability.
