Harambee Stars might finally have the chance to play in the African tournament after a 14-year absence, if news that CAF has suspended Sierra Leon is anything to go by.
According to reports, the governing body made the move after Sierra Leon failed to comply with set rules that were allegedly broken.
On their Twitter account, the CAF committee said they have moved to suspend the country, paving way for Kenya to increase their chances of playing at the tournament they last played in 2002.
The hosts are yet to be named, after the body stripped Cameroon of their rights to host the tourney, owing to failure to meet certain requirements.
Harambee Stars tops the group with seven points, while Ghana lies second with six and Ethiopia in third.
If indeed as reported that Sierra Leone been suspended from the 2019 Afcon qualifiers, then, Stars have qualified for the 2019 AFCON, even if they lose against Ghana.
The deliberation by CAF saw Cameroon lose right to host the tournament, due to what CAF termed as, "A significant delay as far as the delivery of infrastructure is concerned.".
In addition, CAF noted that, security and the generally slow pace of work was the reason behind their decision and that they will seek a new host through fresh bids as from November 30.
CAF will also be considering co-hosting the event due to the short period for preparation.
This is not the first time a country has been stripped off hosting rights by CAF, the same having happened to Kenya early this year, when the country was stripped the rights to host the Africa Nations Championships (Chan).
Meanwhile, Morocco and South Africa are clear front-runners to host the tourney due to their well equipped and ready infrastructure in terms of stadiums and security.
