Kipsomba MCA Joel Rugut who is also the Agriculture committee chair, implementation will help farmers avert losses precipitated by heavy rains.

“Because of global weather changes, weather patterns have changed and we are now experiencing rains during harvesting period. There need for farmers to have driers to avoid post-harvest losses,” he said.

He said that despite the county government acquiring tractors, plowing and machines, it has not given keen interest on acquisition of driers.

“Am moving this motion so that the County government of Uasin Gishu can provide drying facilities to farmers in the county,” added the Kipsomba MCA.

Chief Whip David Sing’oei who supported the motion, said lack of drying facilities poses health risks from aflatoxins.

Sing’oei reiterated that MCAs were not only protecting farmers from loses but also citizens in making sure they consume maize and wheat of good moisture content.

Speaker David Kiplagat who presided over the session directed the County government of Uasin Gishu through the department of Agriculture to provide drying facilities.
