Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Friday left a surprising message for his fiercest rival Francis Mureithi.
In a statement moments after the Supreme Court upheld his August 8, 2017 poll victory, Owino extended an olive branch to his Jubilee Party (JP) opponent, an act many never expected.
"Now that the matter has been resolved, in the spirit of building bridges, I welcome my brother Francis Mureithi to join hands with me to deliver for the people of Embakasi East. I acknowledge that he had his supporters and I want to serve everybody not just those who voted for me," read part of his statement.
The first-time MP, who is known for his hardball brand of politics, decided to make peace with Mureithi despite being dragged to various courts from the day the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared him the winner of closely contested poll.
The JP candidate first moved to the High Court which nullified Owino's win, a judgement which was later overturned by the Court of Appeal after the ODM MP filed an appeal.
