"Some of the richest people of this world, the Bill Gates and others, were not government employees who were stealing so that they could be rich," he added.

The governor cited business as one of the honest ways of making money.

Mutua who has declared interest for the 2022 presidential seat further pinned the array of economic and infrastructural problems that the country is suffering from down to corruption.

He, however, lavished praises on President Uhuru Kenyatta over the ongoing war on corruption that has seen high profile arrests made, warning those engaging in the vice that they will be weeded out.

Among those who have been arrested over corruption-related charges are Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

The corruption that manifests itself in the form of embezzlement of public funds continues to be a concern in Kenya.
