Illegal products suspected to be smuggled to Kenya were on Wednesday night impounded by police in Eldoret.
The bus which had 33 bags that had telecom cables, textiles, cosmetics among others, was taken to Turbo sub-county police headquarters in Eldoret for further inspection.
The Uasin Gishu Police boss Johnstone Ipara confirmed the incident and said the illegal products must have come from a neighbouring country and perhaps evading tax.
"Our officers who were manning a roadblock at Maili Nne flagged down the bus which was transporting these goods. Upon searching the bus they found it was transporting the said goods instead of passengers,” said Mr Ipara as recorded by Daily Nation.
As the investigationS began by the Kenya Revenue Authority officials, Anti-counterfeit and the police officers, realized some goods were expired and had no permit of entry into the country.
Further investigations are underway to determine the amount of money the Country would have lost if the products were not found and impounded.
The driver if the bus who is suspected to come from Uganda went missing when he was released to provide documents of the legality of the products.
Ipara who suspect the products to have come from Uganda pointed out a porous border as the main challenge of the illegal entry of products to the country.
