The mother of an 11-year-old girl who allegedly committed suicide on Sunday has opened up on the horrific dream she had a day before her daughter's death.
Jane Akinyi, the mother of the late Hellen Akinyi who was schooling at Usenge Primary School in Bondo, went on to narrate the strange dream.
“I had a strange dream. I was in the house with my husband at night when I noticed that my daughter was being rained on,” Akinyi told The Standard. “I got outside to open for her the door but I did not see her. I was devastated but ignored the dream,” She added.
Hellen Akinyi left two suicide notes addressed to her mother and younger sister. She was the firstborn among Jane Akinyi's three children.
“Adongo nilisema nikifanya dhambi nitajinyonga. Naenda kujinyonga. Kwaheri (Adongo, I said that if I commit any sin, I will take away my life. I’m going to kill myself. Bye),” one of the notes she left behind read.
According to the mother, Hellen had accompanied her to the market earlier on where she accidentally dropped and broke a jiko she was carrying. The mother however quickly added that she did not make any threats to beat the daughter.
“We were heading to the market where I always buy potatoes (bhajia) and Hellen was carrying a jiko. She slipped and accidentally broke the jiko,” Akinyi stated.
The mother had not yet recorded a statement with the police at the time of the narration.
