Addressing the press outside the Lee Funeral Home on Monday, moments after Laboso's death, Raila said he had visited the county boss at the Nairobi Hospital some ten days ago.

He said that the governor was in deep pain and could not even recognize him from her hospital bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), adding that she had also changed a lot.

"When I visited her (Joyce Laboso) 10 days ago in Nairobi Hospital where she was admitted in the ICU, she couldn’t recognise me well. She had completely changed and was in deep pain," said the former Prime Minister as quoted by K24.

This came shortly after revelations that the governor, who was initially admitted in India and London in the United Kingdom had been battling cancer for a long time.

Raila who had as well visited Laboso in London termed her death a great loss to the nation, lauding her as a dedicated leader and public servant.

“Joyce Laboso’s death is a blow to our devolution system. She was a dedicated public servant and when I visited her in London, I was encouraged she was on the path to full recovery," he noted

Laboso who was serving her first term died aged 58.
