As politicians across the political divide eye to contest and defend their seats in 2022, some governors who are serving their first terms in office might struggle to retain the seats.

Here are governors who might struggle in defending their seats in the 2022 election;

1. Ferdinand Waititu

Critics of the Kiambu Governor have accused him of failing to deliver especially on health and unemployment. The Kiambu governor has also been on the spot over projects like the 'Kaa sober'.

2. Ali Bunow Korane

The Garissa Governor has faced a troubled start to his term since his election in the 2017 general election. Korane is currently battling a case in court where a voter has filed a petition seeking his removal over allegations of holding fake academic papers.

In 2018, the county boss was quizzed by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives over the attempted murder of Idris Mukhtar, a former Finance Executive in his administration.

3. Lee Kinyanjui

The Nakuru Governor is likely to face stiff competition from rivals said to be eyeing his seat. Senator Susan Kihika is among top politicians likely to battle for the seat in 2022.

3. Anne Waiguru

The Kirinyaga governor is likely to face stiff competition from her political rivals in 2022. Former Gichugu MP Martha Karua and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici are likely to give her a run for her money.

4. Charity Ngilu

The first-term governor is not in good terms with her Members of County Assembly (MCAs). The MCAs have accused her of allegedly running a corrupt administration. Ngilu has refuted the claims even as a section of top politicians among them Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi eye the top seat in 2022.

5. Mike Sonko

The Nairobi Governor has been under criticism over development. He is also on the spot for allegedly delaying in picking his deputy, 15 months since Polycarp Igathe resigned.

Sonko could have it rough in 2022 if he opts to defend the seat as young politicians bid to unseat him.

It is a matter of time before we know if these politicians will defend and retain their seats in 2022 general election.
