On Monday, officers from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission mounted a raid on his Nairobi and Kilifi homes in search of evidence to the alleged scam.

The CS is being investigated for allegedly contravening tender procedures contract the firm to offer services and during two expos held in Nairobi between 2016 and 2017.

The EACC is now questioning the reason why Balala opted to single source the firm before personally signing the award letter, a job reserved for the ministry accounting officer.

The Standard reports that in the raids, the detectives confiscated important documents they intend to use to further prosecute the case and requested the Cabinet Minister to hand over other papers.

The CS has been directed to hand over supporting documents to the contract, as EACC suspects that the company is being used to siphon public funds by state officers.

However, Balala has remained mum on the issue, with his Personal Assistant Said Athman denying claims that there was any raid on any of his homes.

"I have just spoken to Waziri (Balala) and he is not aware of any raid conducted in his residence or office," Athman told the Standard.

In a letter signed by EACC Director for Investigations Abdi Mohamoud, Balala has been directed to appear at the commission headquarters at Integrity House for questioning next week.
