Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is with no doubt one of the happiest politicians after a section of Ukambani leaders affirmed that they will not allow him to be shortchanged in the race for power.

Speaking during a meeting in Komarock, Machakos County on Friday, the politicians led by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior urged the Kamba nation to rally behind Kalonzo to ensure that he ascends to power when that time comes.

The leaders maintained that Kalonzo has what it takes to become the next Head of State after the end of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term in office.

They told Ukambani governors and other leaders opposed to Kalonzo’s leadership to swallow their pride in order to back his candidature.

The politicians rubbished allegations by governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) that Kalonzo has failed the community.

They affirmed that they will rally behind the Ukambani kingpin to ensure he rises to power.

“We fully mandate Kalonzo to move ahead and seek, build political alliances,”  Mutula Kilonzo Junior read the meeting's resolutions.

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, nominated Jubilee Senator Isaac Mwaura, Wiper legislators and MCAs, among other leaders attended the meeting as Kalonzo seeks to counter growing rebellion from the region.

Kalonzo is set to lock horns with Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.

The two are considered the front-runners in the race for power.
