Nicholas Nyang'au, appealed to the county boss to consider hiring more teachers instead of sacking the current few teachers, adding that they have done a nice job.

"Nyagarama must ensure his government doesn't mistreat ECDE teachers who are determined to help kids lower nursery level. All we want is to have more ECDE and qualified teachers employed," said Nyang'au.

The official challenged the ODM allied Governor to invest more in education saying the future of children in the county lies in education.

He said no amount of intimidation or blackmail will be allowed among the teachers in the devolved unit.

"As an official defending the rights of teachers, I will not give room for anyone to mistreat the few teachers we have in the county. Several schools have a shortage of ECDE teachers given the high number of kids who have joined nursery classes," he stated.

Nyang'au was speaking on Friday at Miriri area in Nyamira County where he attended a burial of Enock Omwenga, a Nyamira County official.

Governor John Nyagarama announced plans to offload 500 ECDE teachers as part of measures to minimise escalating wage bill in the county.
