The Kenya national football team Harambee Stars managed to hold the Uganda Cranes to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly that was played on Sunday at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
This was the first game for Kenya's new head coach Francis Kimanzi, who took over from Sebastien Migne.
Uganda Cranes got their goal in the 21st minute of the first half, through Emmanuel Okwi. The first half ended in a 1-0 in favour of Uganda.
However, the Kenyan side picked themselves up in the second half.
Just seven minutes into the second half, Kenneth Muguna found himself in a good scoring position.
He converted from Ayub Timbe low cross to level the scores. The Harambee Stars head coach made several changes from the normal Harambee Stars which most people had become used to.
He gave several players a first-time debut since taking over form Migne. Players such as Agade, Samuel Olwande, Lawrence Juma, Boniface Muchiri, Amai Atariza and Johnstone Omurwa were included in the team that faced Uganda.
After the game, Kimanzi appreciated his team for the zeal they had shown while on the pitch.
"There was a lot of positives from the game because we were able to come from a goal down to draw against a very strong team," said Kimanzi.
"There is some belief in the team and players like Lawrence Juma surprised me with his zeal and commitment. I can feel for Agade, but we needed to inject some speed in the midfielder because Cranes were fast in the first half and that's why we countered that by bringing on Isuza," he added.
The two teams are preparing for their November 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
