A delegation from Nigerian Naval troops on Tuesday visited Kenya Defense Forces headquarters in Nairobi as part of progressive learning.
Naval War College of Nigeria is one of the most cherished in West Africa and is credited for helping Abuja to conquer Boko Haram and MEND in Niger River.
At Nairobi, Vice Chief of Defense Forces Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi ushered in the Naval commanders who will be also visiting Mombasa Naval Base.
"A delegation from the Naval War College, Nigeria, led by its Commandant Rear Admiral Adeseye Oke Ayobanjo has paid a courtesy call at the Defence Headquarters,Nairobi. The delegation was received by the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi," KDF said in a tweet.
The visit comes at the time Kenya is keen to withdraw troops from Somalia and station them along the borders. KDF has been in Somalia since 2011.
But before the planned 2021 exit, Kibochi said, Somalia National Army must be effectively trained, equipped and organised to take over responsibilities being undertaken by KDF and allied forces in Somalia.
"To bring security and stability to Somalia, the security forces must be organized, trained up, and equipped for them to eventually take over the roles and responsibilities that the KDF and AMISOM troops are undertaking in Somalia. Being a neighbor, we very much want to find a lasting solution to the stability of our eastern neighbour," added the KDF chief.
Recently, President Uhuru Kenyatta formed Coast Marine Guard group which is mandated to protect Kenya's international waters. Kenya Navy is credited for the role played in liberating Kismayo, a notorious Al-Shabaab town in Somalia.
