Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has slammed Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko following his revelation that the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth sired a child with Nominated MCA Anne Thumbi.
Sonko, who spoke during the memorial service of the deceased at the Moi Girls High School on Thursday, last week, said that he could not sit and watch the son being rejected by Okoth's family.
Millie, however, feels Sonko used the wrong platform to express himself.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Millie said that the child has a right to be identified, adding that there are right channels which the governor could have used to express his concern over the matter.
The MP also said that Sonko was partly to blame for Okoth's botched funeral.
“As a lawyer I know that Anne Thumbi has no legal rights; she is not a wife but her child has legal rights. That was unnecessary drama from Sonko/ PR exercise and I do not agree with his method of doing things,” she said.
The vocal legislator also said that the words of the governor cannot be taken as law, especially because Okoth is not around to defend himself.
“We cannot take Sonko’s words as law and especially where Ken Okoth is not there. We cannot defend what was said or not said. There is however 50 per cent of the nominations that are done on merit and another 50 per cent that is not,” she said.
