Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has raised concern over the slow construction of stadiums in the country.
Speaking at Kaaga Primary school in Meru when he flagged off the Division Two mini-league, Mwendwa called on the national government to ensure that it has fulfilled all the promises it made to Kenyans including the construction of stadiums.
He said that the construction of stadiums will create room for the development of talent at the grassroots level.
Mwendwa also said that many talented Kenyans have not grown their talents because they lack facilities such as stadiums where they can undertake their training.
He also attributed the poor performance of the Kenya premier league to lack of enough stadiums in the country.
“We are struggling to host even Kenya premier league matches because of lack of enough stadiums. There are nine premier league matches every weekend and we only have Kasarani and Machakos. It’s taking a toll on us for sure,” said Mwendwa.
He questioned why the government decided to spend colossal amounts of money on stadiums but failed to ensure the construction is completed on time.
He cited the case of the Kinoru Stadium which is incomplete, adding that unless the matter is addressed, talented youths will have nowhere to go.
