Police in Nyamira are investigating an incident where four probation officers were roughed up by members of public after they had gone to gather a pre-bail report on a matter in court.

The four had gone to the family of a teacher who was killed under unclear circumstances two weeks ago by drivers attached to the education ministry.

The incident happened in Omosasa village in West Mugirango constituency Monday evening.

Nyamira South Police Commander Ms. Lillies Wachira said the police are on the matter and are investigating the incident.She said the assailants, once the investigations are complete will be charged by the law.

“Our officers have taken up the matter and once they complete the investigations, the culprits will be charged by law, it’s wrong to assault any citizen”, she said.

A government vehicle (GKA 821E) was torched in the evening incident.

The commander urged the members of the public to remain calm and observe peace.

Nyamira level 5 hospital medical superintendent Dr. Samuel Ombati said they received the patients in the facility and were responding well to medication.

“We received the patients and one was in critical condition but all are out of danger, they are undergoing treatment," he said.
