This comes after Rameshchandra Govino Gorasia was given a two-week notice to demolish the mall, which is said to have been constructed on a road reserve.

"This building is very strong, it can last up to 100 years. Let it be used as a public market, a school or a university instead of demolishing it. They think I am a fool to come up with such a building then demolish it myself? Am not mad," he said during a press conference on Thursday.

Gorasia further argued that the investment was legal as he had been given the necessary documents by the government before he started the foundation.

"Who gave the authority to build if not the government? Uhuru, my President Uhuru Kenyatta am inviting you at this mall and say it was constructed on this land wrongly," he added.

Gorasia's proposal to have the building converted into a public utility instead of demolishing it has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans.
