Nyali MP Mohamed Ali has said some Coast region leaders are betrayers.
Speaking on Monday during the weekly protest against the compulsory transportation of cargo on Standard Gauge Railway from Mombasa to Nairobi, he accused some of his peers of betraying the Coast residents.
which was organised by the Fast Action Business Community Movement within the Mombasa Central Business District, Ali said some Coast leaders are pretending to be with the protestors but in reality they are not.
Ali was referring to Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo who listed himself and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir as the only law makers in the National Assembly who publicly spoke against the government's directive on the floor of the House.
"When we were fighting for this issue, all Coast MPs left us alone. We were the only ones who openly talked against this problem," Mbogo stated.
However, Ali hit back saying that: “You and Joho went to State House and never invited us. Some people are pretending to be with us, but are just betrayers."
Mbogo asked protestors to give President Uhuru Kenyatta time to resolve the issue.
He said the President will be meeting Coastal leaders in October to discuss the issue.
“Two weeks ago we had a meeting with the President. He will be coming here to try and find a solution to the issues of SGR and port privatisation,” the MP said.
On the other hand, Nassir asked the MPs and leaders from the Coast to speak in one voice.
“We are not interested in who said what in the National Assembly. We should not be divided,” Nassir offered.
