Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has taunted Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who is facing investigations over corruption in the City Hall.
Mwaura laughed at the flamboyant Governor saying he had warned him that being the chief executive of Kenya's capital was a serious job, which didn't allow the holder to entertain sideshows.
The Senator referred to the message he gave Sonko after he threatened to expose deadbeat politicians, moments after disclosing that the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth had a child out of wedlock.
He told the embattled county boss now to focus on clearing his name following the multitude of allegations levelled against him or be apprehended.
"Mike Mbuvi Sonko I told you. A thief has forty days (Siku za Mwizi Ni arobaini). The seat of Nairobi Governor is hot. I told you to stop the side shows. It’s either you account for the Billions or you face arrest. A Paybill going to a personal account? City hall was built in 1935 not 2017," Mwaura tweeted on Saturday.
Sonko was on Thursday questioned for hours by officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on allegations of evading tax amounting to Sh5.8 billion.
On Tuesday, he had been grilled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over suspect impropriety in the issuance of garbage-collection tenders to 13 firms.
Sonko, who does not have a deputy, has hinted at stepping down to allow smooth investigations.
“We must sustain the fight against graft and we cannot purport to do so and remain in office after being accused. So that is a cross I will carry on my own in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fight against graft,” he said on Thursday as quoted by the Nation.
“If I am found not guilty I will come back to the office, but if it is found that I am guilty then I will carry my own cross,” the county boss added.
