World Bank has not recalled Sh120 million grant meant for Nyamira Municipality, Governor John Nyagarama has refuted social media reports that have since gone viral.
Instead, the ODM governor says, the municipality has budgeted for the money and everything is ongoing as planned by the new team steering development in the newly created municipality.
"There are negative reports going on social media concerning the status of Nyamira municipality. The reports are misleading and should be ignored by residents," Nyagarama said through his Press Secretary Kefa Miller.
With regard to whether or not activities have delayed in Nyamira Municipality, Nyagarama said already the board has advertised tenders that would be undertaken using the funding from World Bank.
"No money has been recalled. The reports are untrue. In April 5th, the board advertised roads for repair and that will be done soonest. All Nyamira people should embrace the change brought about by the municipality," read the statement from the governor's office.
Currently, the municipality is under the caretaker manager Mr Lameck Manyara, who also works with board members team under the stewardship of Mr Peter Bita.
Earlier on Sunday, a former MCA who spoke in confidence, said that World Bank might have recalled the grant due to absence of a substantive manager.
Recently, Senate passed a motion that allows county governors to constitute new municipality, Townships and market centers based on Municipality Act of 2018.
And as such, Nyamira could get a second municipality in Keroka should the population of the current residents hit 50,000 after the much anticipated census.
