Former presidential candidate Abduba Dida has accused the government of frustrating KNUT Secretary-General Wilson Sossion because of his hardline stance.
In a tweet on Sunday evening, Dida claimed that the government has plans of recruiting 6000 secondary and primary school teachers on a contract basis and underpay them.
He asserted that Sossion has not been supportive of the idea, which has made him an enemy of the government.
“The Government is planning to hire 6000 Secondary and Primary School teachers on a 1-year contract and planning on paying them 15,000 and 10,000 respectively (subject to deductions). This must be the reason why they were fighting Hon Sossion. Tuwe na huruma jameni,” he tweeted.
On November 26, the court suspended Teacher Service Commission's (TSC) order to deregister Sossion as a teacher.
The court directed that he remains a teacher despite being deregistered pending hearing and determination of the case.
While appearing before Labour Court judge Stephen Radido, Sossion’s lawyers Paul Muite and John Mbaluto said that decision to deregister Sossion was bound to affect his performance in office.
“The purported removal of the first petitioner from the register of teachers would have the effect of disqualifying him from holding office in the second petitioner, the Kenya National Union of Teachers, in which he was elected to serve as Secretary-General,” a statement from his lawyers read.
