This comes after the latest victim, Malik Wamukoya, a class one pupil, was laid to rest in Panyako village, after he was murdered by unknown people on Sunday.

Panyako village elder Ms Alima Wamukoya said that the fear has been worsened by the presence of some unknown people roaming in their maize plantations with unknown intentions.

"Villagers are living in fear because of the attacks targeting innocent villagers. There are strange people roaming in maize farms and we do not know what their intentions are. We are asking security chiefs to step up patrols and arrest the suspects," she said.

In Navakholo Constituency, residents received leaflets warning them of impending attacks. The leaflets are believed to have been dropped by members of the 42 brothers gang.

Kochwa Sub Chief Josphat Makete said that a probe is already ongoing, days after the gang allegedly killed six night guards at Kilingili Market in Vihiga County.

“We have collected 14 leaflets and handed them over to the police to conduct investigations. We have asked residents to remain calm as investigations are in progress,” he said.

This comes after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's vowed that peace must prevail in the region when he visited Matungu alongside Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai two weeks ago.
