With the impending Migori Senatorial by election resurrecting old political rivalries that have characterized the county’s politics for decades, Governor Okoth Obado’s stance on the nomination of former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko as the ODM candidate will come to haunt him in future.

Ayacko was directly nominated by the party in a move that elicited mixed reactions with his bitter rivals including Obado dismissing the decision which they said is a threat to democracy.

While asking the residents to elect a senator of their choice during the October 8 poll, Obado questioned how the party arrived at a decision to hand the certificate to the former legislator.

But in a counterattack, Ugunja MP who is also the party’s director of political affairs, Opiyo Wandayi told the under fire Governor to abide by the party decision or be ‘fried’.

“ODM is not just a political party. It is a liberation movement. And anybody who dares go against it will never survive,” said the lawmaker who is also the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee Chairman in a video posted on his Facebook page.

With the party training its guns on Obado, it remains to be seen whether the Governor will leave his hardliner stance and toe to the party line.
