The leaders now claim that the motion was brought forth with the aim of frustrating DP Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

Led by  Moses Kirima (Imenti Central) and Rahim Dahood (Imenti North), the MPs now say Mbadi's motion is driven by bad faith.

The lawmakers said that the spirit of Harambee has changed the lives of many Kenyans in the past and Mbadi has no moral authority to raise such a motion on the floor of parliament.

They insisted that the ODM chairman has proven that he is an enemy of development following the move.

The two lawmakers said that it will not be fair to do away with the donations in the name of fighting corruption in the government.

“Fundraisers have helped a lot of people in Kenya and we cannot be done away with simply because some individuals imagine that the money being given is obtained by corrupt means,” said Dahood.

On his part, Kirima said that Ruto and other leaders have been donating their funds because they are blessed and nothing bars them from doing so.

Ruto has maintained that he will continue donating to churches
