There was drama on Monday in Riana Ward, Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County after residents clashed over money which had been issued by the area MP John Oyioka.
The chaos erupted after the lawmaker gave residents Sh5,000 to share among themselves.
According to residents, the money was given to one Peter Ondari who tried to run away with the cash.
"Oyioka gave Sh5,000 to Ondari. Instead of Ondari sharing the money with us he said we didn't support Oyioka during the 2017 polls and decided to flee with the money," said Lucas Nyakundi, a resident.
Nyakundi said angered locals chased after Ondari and roughed him up.
Confirming the incident, area chief Edward Mamwacha said Ondari was given a dog's beating by the angry residents.
"Ondari was injured during the fracas and was taken to Iyabe Hospital for treatment. The money was later shared among the locals equally," he stated.
The administrator appealed to leaders to stop giving money to locals, noting that handing out cash to residents could lead to fights.
Mamwacha urged residents especially men to work hard and earn a living instead of depending on money from politicians.
