Muthama urged the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to reinstate his security detail which had then been withdrawn.

He claimed there were people who had been trailing him in suspicious vehicles within Nairobi City.

Muthama said he had received death threats from unknown people.

He claimed that the death threats were due to his political stand.

"I have received threats. They have even sent emissaries to convince me to change my political stand but I won't relent," Muthama said.

Muthama addressed the press at Tala in Matungulu Sub-county.

The politician said he had written to David Kimaiyo through his lawyer John Khaminwa seeking enhancement of his security detail.

"Strange vehicles are trailing my movements and I'm therefore living in fear since my security detail has been withdrawn. The Inspector General of Police should seriously consider re-instating my security arrangements in my house and office," he said.

Before his death threats claims, Muthama had been quizzed by police over his hate speech charges he was facing then.

He dismissed the charges stating that the prosecution did not have concrete evidence against him on the hate speech claims.

Muthama had promised to cooperate with the police in the investigations on the charges but maintained that the whole issue was meant to intimidate him.
