Former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando on Sunday recounted how his attempt to woo President Uhuru Kenyatta to leave KANU in 1999 backfired.
In a series of tweets, the vocal politician recalled how the head of state picked him at Kuality hotel, which is located next to Safina Party Headquarters in Nairobi.
He revealed that during the trip, he attempted to convince Uhuru to dump retired President Daniel Arap Moi but he could not hear none of the stories. He said that he had asked Uhuru to join the movement of nationals but his effort did not bear fruits.
"1999 I sought Uhuru Kenyatta. Alone driving himself, he picked me Kuality hotel, next our Safina party HQs. Two of us drove for a lengthy chat at FairView hotel. I tried to ‘recruit’ convince into “new generation” national alliance. He insisted KANU grassroots networks. Sight, " he tweeted.
He also said that Uhuru had great admiration for the late veteran politician Matiba Kenneth. He opined that Uhuru had adored Matiba than any other politician he knew during that time.
Kabando noted that he learned a lot of things from Matiba.
"2011 Uhuru hosted a small thinking team of us. As 1999, showed great admiration, gratitude to Matiba. Barely hid regrets Matiba didn’t succeed; definitely owes more tutelage to Matiba. Methinks Moi was paying 1966-78 ‘debt’ 2002. I posit that Uhuru adored Matiba beyond others," he said in another tweet.
