Kapkoiga residents, Sergoit Ward in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County now have a sigh of relief after the County government in collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) secured them from a stray lion that has been terrorizing them.
The residents have been living in fear for weeks after a lion attacked, and killed their livestock thus threatening their security forcing them to be in their houses by 6:00 pm.
According to Moiben Sub County Administrator Joseph Karonei, residents can now continue with their day to day business as the lion has been secured.
“The efforts put in place using a KWS chopper, saw the Lion secured at Kruger farm which has an electric fence all around it, and plans are underway for it to be captured with bait using a sheep,” said the Moiben Sub County Administrator.
Karonei who spoke to the press in Moiben on Thursday said residents had been forced to be in their homes early due to the fear of being attacked by the stray lion noting that there is now no cause of alarm.
“The Lion which is believed to have strayed from Laikipia after it is trapped will be darted and taken back to its home,” he added.
He called on residents to alert the police in case they suspect something unusual so that they can be helped.
