President Uhuru Kenyatta held wide-ranging talks with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness after arriving in Kingston on Monday.

Making his speech after the talks, the Prime Minister laid bare the sprawling agenda of the talks.

He said that among the issues that were discussed were international cooperation, the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and climate change.

"During our talks today, we emphasised the significance of international cooperation and partnership and the effective implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and, of course, critical issues to do with climate change and managing our oceans, " the Jamaican Prime Minister said. (7:10-7-38)

Holness expressed his gratitude to Uhuru for the role that Kenya was playing in championing issues of international significance.

When he made his speech, President Uhuru said that cooperation in athletics and crafting policies to benefit the diaspora of the two countries were also discussed.

According to a post on Twitter by State House, establishing air connections between the two countries was also a topic of discussion.

"During the meeting plans to introduce air transport connections between Kenya and Jamaica were discussed, with President Kenyatta noting that encouraging more trade and deepening commercial ties will strengthen the partnership between the two nations," the tweet read.

The two leaders agreed on the need for strengthening bilateral and people-to-people ties as a way of boosting trade and cultural exchanges.

President Uhuru and his delegation, which included Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma and Sports CS Amina Mohamed, was treated to pompous welcome.
