Former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando has claimed that the fear for Raila Odinga among Mt Kenya voters is 'traditional and unjustified'.
For the last three elections, Raila has performed dismally in the region, often facing fierce criticism from the residents of Central Kenya.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Kabando blamed grandfathers from the region on the hatred towards Raila, adding that they taught people that Raila's father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was bad.
Jaramogi, Kenya's first Vice President, parted ways with Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1966 after a clash of ideologies.
"Central Kenya fear of Raila is real. Like boers feared Mandela. We must courageously crash unjustified phobia."
"Raila is feared because our grandparents were oathed that Jaramogi was bad. 2002 Raila was “our” hero. 2005-8 Ruto was “our” enemy. We shall, for Kenya, embrace Raila," he said.
Raila has since reconciled with President Uhuru Kenyatta in the famous handshake which gave birth to Building Bridges Initiative report.
Kabando, who now says the handshake has been instrumental to Uhuru's leadership, adds that Uhuru's legacy will be tainted if he doesn't stamp his authority.
According to him, a section of politicians attacking his leadership and key institutions would eventually sabotage his Big Four agenda.
"Time is running out for UHURU to deliver Big4, @TheRealBBIKenya. Calculated attacks on DCI, DPP, @InteriorKE duo, CSs of central Kenya descent, Kenyatta family all designed to delegitimize the President. Yet, UHURU has constitutional SWORD to reign supreme. Plus must stay UhuRao," he added.
