Key allies of the Deputy President William Ruto could be inching closer to the exit door.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen is one of those who are expected to be ousted from his leadership position in the Senate.

According to the Daily Nation, Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar is expected to replace the outspoken Elgeyo Marakwet Senator in the Senate leadership position.

Murkomen, a key Ruto ally has of late come under sharp criticism from the pro-President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga political camp, for allegedly using his position in the Senate to settle political scores. His perceived anti-government stance could make him the first victim of the bitter fallout within the ruling party.

As one of the most experienced politicians in the country, Prof. Kamar served as Higher Education Minister during President Mwai Kibaki second term in office.

She lost the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial race in 2013 but managed to bounce back in 2017 to win the Senatorial seat.

A key ally of President Kenyatta, Cherang’any MP Joshua Kuttuny, confirmed that the Kieleweke team is pushing for the changes to take place so that the President's agenda can be pushed in the house.

"I can confirm that the discussions are at the highest level of the party and that we are at the tail end of ensuring the changes are effected. I can assure you, it is inevitable,” Kuttuny said.

“It’s long overdue and we are pushing it. You cannot purport to be supporting the President, but also oppose his agenda and undermine him. They should not have it both ways,” the Cherang'any MP added.
