Speaking during the disbursement of bursary cheques worth Sh27 million to needy students at Karatina Railway grounds on Sunday, the lawmaker said the region is solidly behind Ruto as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta come 2022.

The MP argued that Ruto is the best candidate to complete Uhuru’s agenda upon his retirement.

He faulted the anti-Ruto group, commonly known as ‘Kieleweke’, for fighting the DP at the expense of development.

Gachagua urged those opposed to Ruto’s presidential bid to desist from attacking him in churches, and instead challenged them to fight for the development of their regions before their terms end in 2022.

“The ‘rebels’ and the ‘outsiders’ should stop insulting the DP in churches. Mt Kenya voters know their commitment to Dr Ruto and they do not need to be lectured,” said Gachagua.

Ruto has remained confident that he will clinch the presidency in the upcoming polls.

The MP's remarks come amid speculations of a possible alliance between President Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
