Lwam Bekele, the widow of Fidel Odinga, says the dispute with her mother-in-law has been blown out of proportion, adding that it's not a big deal.
Details of a court case between Lwam and Mama Ida Odinga shocked the country, with Odinga family trying in vain to block the media from covering it.
But on Wednesday, Lwam's lawyer Roger Sagana said she has no issues with the twins allegedly sired by Fidel Odinga as claimed by Ida.
According to Lwam, she will include them as beneficiaries of Fidel's estate should the DNA results show that they were sired by the deceased.
At the mention of the case on Wednesday, lawyers Roger Sagana and Victor Olao for Ms Bekele and Mrs Odinga respectively, told Justice Aggrey Muchelule that the test would expedite and resolve the matter.
“My client is saying that she will include the twins as beneficiaries of the estate, if the test proves that they were sired by the deceased (Fidel),” Mr Sagana said.
Her approach could expedite the matter which had caused opposition leader Raila Odinga panic. Mrs Odinga has accused Lwam of abandoning their family.
“That even though the death of the deceased remained a mystery and efforts were made to establish what suddenly transpired, the petitioners herein, kept off from the family,” Ida and Winnie said in a joint up .
They went on: “It remains unclear why the petitioner hastily ran away and kept off the family, whereas, there have been various efforts to establish contacts.”
In refuting claims by the Odinga family that she excluded several properties from an inventory of assets her late husband owns, Ms Bekele alleged that her strained relationship with her mother-in-law was the real cause of the succession dispute.
“The averments are preposterous, offensive and made in bad taste. The first objector (Mrs Odinga) has the autopsy reports. I believe that the statement she recorded with the DCI following the death of Fidel informs the first objector’s averments and is the genesis of our differences.
"The first objector has continuously made false, defamatory and/or unkind remarks about my family, friends and I,” Ms Bekele says.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule on Wednesday ordered for DNA test for the twins, who were allegedly born six months after Fidel's death in 2015.
