A crisis looms at the Wajir County Referral Hospital following reports of mysterious deaths of 4 newborns at the facility.
The deaths have been blamed on poor service delivery at the facility run by the Wajir County government.
According to Fatima Adow, one of the mothers who lost her newborn child, the reported deaths could have been avoided only if nurses at the facility did their job properly.
"I was booked at the facility on March 6, 2019 for delivery which I successfully did. I gave birth under normal delivery but lost my child hours due to the poor state of Wajir General Hospital. Four of us who delivered at the facility on the same day lost our babies. We blame it on nurses' laxity and ignorance," said Ms Adow.
The grieving mother further revealed that her dead baby was immediately whisked away to the facility's mortuary even before she was informed on what had killed her baby.
Efforts to seek clarification from the hospital administration on the matter bore little fruits as the superintendent only described the deaths as 'normal and occasional occurrence'.
Adow is now calling on relevant government agencies to launch speedy investigations into the matter to curb more deaths in the future.
