A probe into the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani could take a new twist after a forensic investigator told the court that a bullet was found in Jacqueline Maribe’s bedroom.
The detective, Jennifer Jepkosgei, said that she made the discovery when she ransacked the house of the journalists in Lang’ata moments after the body of the deceased was found.
The detective said that bullet was part of the evidence she had collected from the home of the deceased in Lamuria Gardens, Nairobi, and the journalist’s house.
The officer, however, said that he could not establish whether the bullet had any links to the murder of the business Maribe and her fiancée Joseph Irungu alias Jowie are under probe over their alleged role in the murder of Kimani as the family awaits justice.
The defence lawyer Katwa Kigen told the court that the bullet could not be used to link his clients to the murder.
The forensic expert later told the court that the bullet was only part of the evidence and she could not ascertain how it was used because no bullet was spotted in the body of the deceased.
“I cannot say what actually caused the death, but going by the injuries on her neck, I suspect that her throat was slit using a sharp object. I did not see any bullet wound on her body and I wasn’t able to recover any sharp object in the suspects’ house,” said Jepkosgei.
The detective also presented in court photos of the deceased at the scene of crime and the site where the suspect allegedly burned his clothes after committing the heinous act
Maribe was arrested alongside Jowie but she was later released on bond.
